Implants 101

  • Implants are the closest in look, feel and function to natural teeth. They provide a stable bite for eating, speaking and smiling with confidence. Bridges and dentures can be uncomfortable and cause difficulty chewing.
  • Implants are long-lasting (up to a lifetime!) and the success rate is very high.
  • Implants are cost effective in the long run. Bridges may need to be replaced every 10 to 12 years.
  • Implants have less impact on the surrounding teeth. Teeth adjacent to a bridge must be ground down to support the bridge.
  • Over time, a bridge may actually decrease your satisfaction with your appearance as the gums may recede.
  • A missing tooth causes the bone in the jaw to resorb, which can cause an aged sunken appearance. Using a bridge will not stop this process. During the healing process the jaw is preserved as implants fuse to the bone. Implants also prevent the remaining teeth from moving out of position.
